While viewing the email in the preview window, click the button at the top of the screen labeled "Reply".
This will open the new mail composition window and automatically fill in the appropriate information.

 

When the email is opened in a new window there is a separate toolbar for actions to take at the top of that window.
The button to reply will be the leftmost button on this toolbar.
